“Weber’s Boys”; The trial of Stanley Weber Concludes

Pine Ridge, S.D. — Families across the Pine Ridge Reservation are paying close attention to the much-anticipated trial of Stanley Weber, the Indian Health Service Doctor who is charged with sexual assault crimes against Oglala Lakota children in Pine Ridge.  The trial began on Monday September 23 with jury selections.

 

Weber came to Pine Ridge in 1995. It wasn’t until 2015 that a tribal investigation was initiated against Weber and the allegations of sexual abuse of his victims.

To Whom It May Concern:

 

This letter is being sent to inform you that the current draft of the OST and OLC Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for Public Review online. This draft includes the latest revisions that were discussed at the second round of meetings.

 

You may review the draft at the project website: https://jeo.com/osthmp.

 

The draft will now be made available for a 30-day public comment period, which lasts from Thursday, June 27th to Saturday, July 27th, 2019. At the end of this period, the complete multi-jurisdictional plan will be submitted to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for final approval

 

This is your last opportunity to review the plan and submit to JEO any requested changes or corrections, prior to its submission to SDDPS and FEMA.

 

Please carefully review this section with your local planning team and verify that the information therein is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Then please inform JEO as soon as possible should you desire any changes. To request changes, you can markup the section, scan it, and email it to me at bwelsh@jeo.com; fax it to the number provided below; or mail your revisions to our Lincoln office. If we do not receive changes from you by Saturday, July 27th, we will assume that your jurisdiction has reviewed this section and approves of it as written.

Oglala Sioux Tribe – For every $1 spent on hazard mitigation, $6 in post storm cleanup and rebuilding is saved, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Proactive hazard mitigation planning allows a community to take actions to reduce or eliminate threats from natural and man-made disasters. To help guide future hazard mitigation projects, the Oglala Sioux Tribe is undertaking an effort to update their current Hazard Mitigation Plan, last approved by FEMA in 2014.
