OST Relief

ABOUT

In response to a historic winter storm and flooding in 2019, Th Oglala Sioux Tribe has created a focal point for emergency relief information. We work hard alongside our volunteers to help the Oyate with information, support, services, and a means to access in our area. Our work is dedicated to funding and delivering charitable services and goods. We strive to inspire and improve the lives of those who need assistance in times of emergencies and natural disasters.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe has been working to provide relief and recovery to the members effected by 2019's Winter Storm Ulmer in March. The resulting flooding and road destruction has created a state of emergency for the OST as many of our tribal members have been displaced, many left without home or belongings.

The donations received are earmarked for the recovery efforts being conducted by several tribal programs including the Emergency Management System and Road Maintenance.  Nearly all of the heavy equipment that the tribe owns and utilizes year round has been damaged or destroyed further hindering the recovery effort. Man power is at an all time low with many employees unable to leave their property or being needed at their own homes to assist their families and communities.

The generosity being shown from across the country has been tremendous; caravans of cars and trucks and trailers filled with much needed donated items have been pulling onto the reservation daily and are greatly appreciated. However, the need for the vehicles and equipment to access those tribal members who most need these items is critical. There are still families who have not been reached since March 13 with much more than water and some food items due to the impassability of the roads.

Every donation is appreciated and is applied directly and solely to the Rescue and Recovery effort.
